Our Toilets

At Terra Frutis we use humanaure toilets.

We do not supply toilet paper. If you’d like to use toilet paper, please bring your own. You can also use tree leaves or a plumbed bidet that’s available in the squatting toilets.

We have two community-maintained toilet facilities.

  1. Community Center Toilets
  2. Bungalow 5 Toilets

Toilet Usage

Our humanure toilets have toilet seats with a bucket below. Simply sit or squat then make your deposit.

If using toilet paper or leaves, you can drop them in the toilet with your deposit.

When you’re finished, completely cover your deposit with the carbon-based “cover material” provided in the toilet (saw dust, rice husks, coconut coir, etc). When in doubt, use more cover material.

When done properly the humanure composting system should not smell. If there are smells, add more cover material.

Everyone at Terra Frutis shares the responsibility of emptying the humanure buckets (on a rotating basis). You will receive instructions on how to maintain our humanure toilets on arrival.

Sinks

Our toilets have plumbed sinks.

Always wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilets; it helps prevent the spread of many communicable diseases, including Cholera, Typhoid, E-coli, Hepatitis A, Giardia, Worms, and Parasites.
